The original Whistler Mountain opened as a ski resort in the mid1960s; it now has 17 ski lifts to service over 100 ski runs down from the 7160 feet peak elevation mountain. In 1980 Blackcomb Mountain opened. This impressive mountain has 16 ski lifts, over 100 runs, and a peak elevation of 7494 feet. It was Blackcomb Mountain which was to become awarded the title of the number 1 ski resort in North America by Skiing magazine and has retained this title for 2005.
