International Appalachian Trail has more services for hikers
A new network grouping together companies and organizations offering services to hikers along the International Appalachian Trail was created this last March. Accommodation, transportation, food services, guided services, outdoor shops and tourist attractions have joined together to ensure quality services for hikers along the entire Québec section of the trail.
The network extends along the entire Gaspé region, beginning at Matapedia, running up the Matapedia Valley to Amqui and then turning East into the Matane Wildlife Reserve. The trail then crosses the Parc de la Gaspésie, passing over Mont Albert and Mont Jacques-Cartier. It then comes out of the mountains, reaching the Saint Lawrence River at Mont-St-Pierre. The trail then follows the shore East, right to the tip of Cape Gaspé, on the end of the Forillon Peninsula. Because of this incredible geography, the trail offers an great variety of scenery and attractions and it is a tourist attraction of great potential for the development of our region. For this reason we consider it highly important to offer quality services to hikers along the entire trail.
The Trail can be walked by all kinds of hikers. It is possible to do long or short hikes and there is also a great variety of difficulty levels (very easy to very hard). The new service-provider network will cater to hikers as well as folks out for one-day hikes.
